In lieu of Modi's Digital India, Eraviperoor a village in Kerela has provided free Wi-Fi to the villagers. It is said to be Rs.4,17,000 project implemented with the support of Active Infocom Ltd.
With this Eraviperoor's gram panchayat has become the first to crenelate free Wi-Fi to village folk. The free connection is functional in a 1 kilometer radius of panchayat.
Gram panchayat president N. Rajeev said the panchayat has established Wi-Fi hotspots at the Gram Vijnana Kendram at Vallamkulam, Panchayat office at Kozhimala, Ayurveda dispensary at Nannoor, Primary Health Center at Othera and Children's Park at Eraviperoor.
In the past five years, the local body had won many acclaims for its development initiatives. Eraviperoor received the National Award for Public Administration this year. Along with State Award for Biodiversity Conservation, Sanitation award of the state Sanitation Mission, and the Pain and Palliative Care Award of district panchayat.
